Guard Your Heart #1

Above All

Above All

Recently, after a bout of Covid, I was advised to have a heart check. My natural heart was functioning normally, I hope you will be glad to know, but it led me to think about the significance of our spiritual hearts.

The Bible says, “…above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it…” (Proverbs 4:23). The heart, in this context, represents our inner being, and so its health is vitally important.

According to this verse, our heart affects every aspect of our lives – the way we feel, think, and choose.

And, according to Jesus Christ, it also affects the way we speak. He said, “…the mouth speaks what the heart is full of…” (Matthew 12:34). No wonder, the proverb says, “…Above all else, guard your heart…”.

The health of our spiritual heart must be of the highest priority for preachers and teachers. With this in mind, I have decided to start a new series of teaching tips about guarding our heart – based on this passage in proverbs.
